Blog

School pupil Lewis Binnie loves computing science and is determined to spread the word about his passion for cyber security and coding. Check out his blog and inspiring infographics below.

Computing science is a subject which people often view as ‘boring’, ‘too hard’, or ‘just for boys’. This is completely wrong.

Over the last few months, I’ve been making various infographics (see below) detailing fun and exciting ways that people can develop their computing skills, mainly aimed at younger students (specifically S1 - S3), and people that are new to the industry.

These have allowed me to grow my Twitter platform and have a voice in this field, to try and inspire people to jump headfirst into a career that will have them set for life.

I’d just like to detail here a couple of the amazing, interesting things that having a passion for Computing Science can bring, to either inspire anyone currently, or to give people ammunition to give to younger students or peers.

I’ve also included some links to websites or resources for people to get started.

Games and App Development
This is a fantastic way for younger students to get involved in computing, with the idea of them being able to make their own video games, stories, characters and gameplay a huge selling point!

Cyber Security
For those already interested in computing a little, or who have watched TV shows such as ‘Mr Robot’ or ‘Person of Interest’, the idea of hacking may be appealing!

Top Secret Positions
The idea of working for government bodies such as GCHQ, NCSC or the British Army may be interesting to some, as well as keeping the countries citizens and secrets safe.

Residentials, Events and Festivals
In the field of Computing Science there is absolutely huge potential for travel, meeting new people and seeing sights! Some exotic locations that ethical hackers can visit include Japan, South Korea or China.

Overall, I just wanted to write this short piece for any teachers, parents, professionals or peers who needed to share how amazing Computing Science can be, and is every single day. There are hundreds of resources out there - all it takes is a bit of passion, creativity and drive to succeed.
