A Modern Apprenticeship has been the perfect platform for Perth’s Rowan Charity to build a top-class marketing career.
The 20-year-old completed her IT and Telecommunications Modern Apprenticeship, impressing her bosses at Synergy Salon Supplies.
As she progressed through her Modern Apprenticeship, Rowan discovered that she also had a flair for digital marketing.
Having established that she was a practical learner, the former Breadalbane Academy pupil jumped at the chance to earn as she learns.
She said: “A Modern Apprenticeship was definitely the best option for me. It gave me a drive to progress within this industry and it has opened my mind to a completely new industry too.
“I can now offer both IT and Marketing support and have my qualification to back it up. I have a lot of skills to bring to the table because of my Modern Apprenticeship.”
Rowan’s role now includes tasks such as digital design, working with images and running the company website.
Her next step is to gain a digital marketing qualification, which Synergy Salon Supplies fully support.
She added: “My employer has been very supportive throughout my apprenticeship, and still backs me just as much now that I’ve completed it. They’re willing to help me gain more qualifications that align with my job.
“If people prefer to learn on the job, I’d definitely recommend a Modern Apprenticeship. It is the best thing I could have done.”
Synergy Salon Supplies Business Development Manager Eamon O’Brien firmly believes that work-based learning is the perfect stepping stone to a successful career.
He said: “Modern Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to learn while earning a living. Rowan has been allowed to show her creative side and is more than capable of handling responsibility.”
An assessor from Set Training visited Rowan every month and would support her as she progressed through her learning modules.
Set Training Head of Operations Jenny Morrison said: “Rowan is a name that is well known around the Set Training office as one of our most successful apprentices. She is a polite, well-mannered young woman and we’re sure she has a very bright career ahead of her.”
