For Teachers

*ORDINARILY THE FREE CYBER AND DATA LESSONS BELOW ARE TARGETED AT TEACHERS AND PUPILS IN SCOTLAND, BUT BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC THEY ARE NOW OPEN TO ALL AND REMAIN FREE FOR ALL*

We've created this toolkit to help teachers introduce cyber and data careers into the classroom. Working with experts, we've created a series of fun and engaging lessons that are easy to deliver and are designed to fit a standard period.

From how to rob a bank through to defending a hospital, and cracking passwords to tracking rhinos (and many more), all our lessons can be found here. So far more than 100,000 pupils and teachers have used them, so they are definitely tried, tested and proven to work.

(These lessons have been designed in such a way that they support the teaching and delivery of learning outcomes from the relevant curricula and qualifications listed below)

Defend Stirling Castle

What do you get when you cross an ancient medieval castle with cutting edge cyber security?

Use cyber security skills to defend one of Scotland's most important historical sites....Stirling Castle. In this interactive lesson, learners are going to step into the shoes of a cyber security defence team to stop a live cyber attack. They will learn about modern cyber security defences and their medieval parallels, and only by working together will they be able to stop the attackers. No knowledge of long-swords required.

This lesson is delivered in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland.

Code Your Data Selfie

Join our data science team to create a data-driven piece of digital art about the person you know best: YOU.

In this workshop, you’ll get to code your own self-portrait using personal data. You will use data visualisation software to create an abstract drawing based on data you choose to share. You’ll also get to look behind the code to discover how it works – and see if you can decode data selfies of famous figures.

No previous experience of data science is required.
