Did you know that almost every industry in Scotland could benefit from an apprentice with digital skills? More and more organisations of all sizes can benefit from learners with experience in cyber security, data management, digital marketing and more. Recently SDS (Skills Development Scotland) released the Digital Economy Skills Action Plan (DESAP), which highlights a basic need for digital skills across the economy.

Recently, through working with QA Apprenticeships as a training provider partner,  Alzheimer Scotland has taken on five apprentices: 1 x Digital Marketing, 1 x Digital Applications, 1 x Information Security and 2 x IT & Telecoms Professionals. The impact of their knowledge and digital competencies were felt immediately with the team.

Kevin Jamieson, Head of IT & Digital Services said: “It can be difficult to attract people with the right technical skills to meet today’s demands for Information Security, especially in the charity sector, so it was great to have the opportunity to upskill existing colleagues.

“Alzheimer Scotland has benefitted greatly from Digital Modern Apprenticeships. Every time a colleague completes a part of the apprenticeship, they can’t wait to share their new knowledge with the rest of the team and improve a business process. We can now perform thorough cyber security audits in house and more frequently, keeping data as secure as possible. The apprenticeships have also given the team confidence in migrating from on-premise solutions to a Cloud First approach.”

The Digital Economy Skills Action Plan (DESAP) shows that digital skills are no longer the preserve of just the technology sector, and that digital talent is now essential for all of the country’s key industries.
